It’s been one week since I turned 31.
One week since I had what I thought was a simple little cyst removed from my wrist.
One week since my life was flipped, turned upside. I’d like to take a minute just sit right there, I’ll tell ya how I became the Princess who can’t even do her own hair.
So, last week I told you all about my birthday and how I was having surgery. Need a refresher? READ HERE
Well, what I thought was going to be just a simple surgery that would put me in some discomfort for a few days ultimately left me with this :
See, the morning of my surgery my doctor apparently changed the plan. He decided he was going to fix my torn ligament that’s in there as well. Yep, it was a shocker to me as well. But that’s not even the topper!
Imagine my surprise when he tells me that once the splint that you see above is off (in 3 days) it’s going to be replaced by a cast for 6 weeks….6 WEEKS!!!!!!
Oh wait there’s more. Even though he was going to be removing the cyst, torn cartilage and repairing the torn ligament the surgery was still only supposed to take 45 minutes. This was important because I have bad reactions to general anesthesia. The longer I’m under the longer it takes me to come out of it and the sicker I am.
Know where I’m going with this??
That’s right! I was in there for 2 HOURS!!!!
I’m such a freak that the inside of my wrist was so messed up that it took him longer than he thought to fix everything and of course the cyst was large enough that when he removed it it left a void that he needed to fill/repair.
Needless to say it took me about 4 hours to be able to wake up and then another 6 hours of being sick and given several doses of anti-nausea meds and even a patch behind my ear before I felt somewhat okay to go home. And even then they really wanted me to stay the night but NO THANKS!
In the last week I’ve been in pain every day. It’s worse at night.
My Christmas basically sucked.
My hubby and I didn’t exchange gifts this year and because we were gone on vacation up until a couple of days before my surgery and those days were spent getting the house back in order we didn’t even get the chance to take the kids shopping so they could pick out gifts for us. Then my body was still so messed up from the anesthesia that I couldn’t eat normally so I didn’t get to fully enjoy Christmas dinner.
Will my New Year be better?
Not to start off with.
Until mid February…
I will be one-handed.
It will take me 20 minutes to prep my arm for a 10 minute shower.
I won’t be able to pick up my children.
I can’t put my daughter’s hair in a pony tail or any other kind of hair pretty.
And I can’t even do my own hair. I can blow dry it but not style it so it basically looks like crap.
I know, I know. I need to focus on what I do have and be thankful for those things and I am.
But I needed to throw myself a pity party and invite all of you to hear my bitchin’.
Well, my bitchin’ is done but if you’re ear is itchin’ for more gimme until tomorrow when I have to try to figure out how to shave my armpits. 🙁
