Dinner is always a crazy time in our house. It’s a fine balance because the hubs is hungry as soon as he gets home and the kids would rather play for a few more minutes than sit down and eat.
Plus, lets face it, after chasing the kids around all day breaking up fights, kissing owies, and breaking up fights, the LAST thing I want to do is cook.
Fridays have always been our eat out nights. We get pizza or Chinese, hang out for the night and watch a movie as a family. This is great except sometimes there are days other than Friday that I don’t want to cook. Luckily, the hubs understands this and always encourages me to get prepackaged meals from the grocery store each week. I don’t always use them but it’s nice to know that I have a back up plan if need be.
Because of this I’m always on the lookout for different meals to serve. Thanks to MyBlogSpark I was able to try out Wanchai Beef & Broccoli Dinner.
First off the bag says it is enough for 2 people. This poses a problem for me since we have 5 people in our house. I would have to buy 3 bags to feed all of us and at roughly $7 a bag, that would be $21 for a meal. Granted it’s cheaper than take out but typically I spend around $2 per person when I cook and try to stick to that budget even when buying prepackaged meals.
I will say that what I love about this dinner is EVERYTHING is included in the bag. Typically with these types of meals you get just the veggies and the meat (often times skimping on the meat), anything else you have to supply. But with Wanchai not only do you get a nice balance of meat and veggies but the rice is even in the bag too. You just cook it in the microwave as the rest of the meal is on the stove. Easy Peasy!
Once completed there were exactly 2 servings. And I mean actual serving sizes. This is good for me because I am trying to lose a bit of weight and one of my big challenges is portion control.
Overall, the taste was good, especially for packaged dinner. The sauce that is included wasn’t too salty and added a nice tang to the meal. I’d have it again but with our budget I’ve got to have a coupon. Luckily, there is a $1.60 off Coupon available to help make it more budget friendly.
That’s not all! Wanchai through MyBlogSpark is giving me the opportunity to share a Wanchai Prize Pack with one of you! Included in the prize pack is:
- Wanchai Beef & Broccoli Dinner for 2

I would like to see a dish with tofu in it. Of course, they could never call it tofu on the package since everyone thinks tofu is terrible without ever having tried it. They could probably do OK with calling it bean curd and tossing a bunch of veggies in there.
They have the Orange chicken, but I would like to see the Lemon chicken as well.
