..and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound?
You’ve heard that before right. Last weekend it kept going through my head over and over again.
You see it was drill weekend for the Hubs, so the kids and I were by ourselves. Typically I loathe these types of scenarios. I’ve been with the kids all week and I look forward to having some help breaking up fights, picking up toys, and basically just running interference. When the Hubs is away I am Mom and Dad. No bueno.
However, this weekend was unlike any I have experienced before.
There was no screaming, no yelling, no tattling. There were no fits filled with 3 year old drama. There was no waiting and repeating myself 10 times when I asked them to do something. There were please and thank you’s used ALL OVER the place, including with each other.
It was seriously as if I had entered some alternate reality or dreamland where my children were the children I always dreamed they would be. You know the well behaved ones who when you call out to them they reply, “Yes mother” in an english accent.
I couldn’t help but thinking that no one was going to believe me when I tell them that it happened. It was much like that tree in the forest. If no one else witnessed it did it really happen?!?
Sadly, Monday morning I came crashing back into the real world. It wasn’t long after waking up that the bickering began, and the asking of “put your shoes on” came out about 13 times before he actually put his shoes on.
I’ll never truly know if that weekend was real or just a dream. But if it was in fact a dream, it’s a dream I wouldn’t mind repeating. Over and over.
