Who needs a Romance Novel man?

This July my hubs and I will have been married for 10 years.

10 years that have been filled with many memorable moments, laughs, let downs, and heartaches. But through it all there has been one constant. One unwavering pillar that has refused to give up on us. And that’s my husband.

My hubs isn’t about the grand gestures, and trust me, for years when we first got together I TRIED to change that. I wanted that guy who believed jewelry was the appropriate gift for any occasion. The one who thought that a dozen roses wasn’t enough. Basically, I wanted the guy that was in every romance novel I ever read.

Sadly, it has taken me over 10 years to realize that what I have is SO much better than that romance novel guy. The grand gestures aren’t necessarily the most heart felt overtures. It’s the bouquet of wild flowers left next to my bed. It’s the dishes being done when I head downstairs in the morning. It’s walking out to the parking lot after a late shift and seeing him warming up my car.

It’s logging on to Facebook and seeing this.

love gestures in marriage

I’ll take my Airman over that romance novel guy anyday.

  2. Sweet! Congrats on having the non-novel man – there is always way too much stress involved to make them out to be so super. I’m with you – a random bouquet of flowers is so much better than two dozen on a “holiday” of some sort.

Congrats on an upcoming ten years! We just celebrated nine…
