It’s official!! I’ve ran two 5k’s in two months!
Now to catch you all up.
So, since the Move It and Lose It Challenge through Mamavation, I fell off the weight loss wagon. The week after the challenge ended I quit counting calories and I’ll admit that I started to go back to some of my old habits again. Not ALL my bad habits, but I gotta say the first thing that reared it’s ugly head was my consumption of soda. I went from having maybe 16oz a week to having that much a day. That first week I gained back 5lbs. Not a huge amount by any means except that was 5lbs that I had worked my butt off to lose. Although I didn’t start writing my calories down again, I did become more cognizant of what I was eating.
Portion control was thankfully something that did not go by the wayside which was a God send because even though I may not have been making the best choices in food, I wasn’t gorging on it. I’m happy to say that because of that and my commitment to exercise that I have maintained my weight since that initial gain. These past weeks have been fun, I’m not going to lie. However, I am ready to dive back in and pick up where I left off. I still have at least another 20 pounds I would like to lose and we all know they’re not going to fall off by themselves.
After my first race I made a goal to run 5 races in 5 months. I did my research and registered for those that were open.
My second 5k was this past weekend that benefited our local Montessori school. I gotta say, it was nice to be able to drive less than a mile to the start line. It was a very small field but still a lot of fun. My hubs and kiddos were there to cheer me on and when it was all over it was just another quick drive home to take a shower. 🙂
In the end I was very happy with how I did! This is over 5 minutes faster than I ran my race in March! Admittedly, the course was a bit easier. It was much flatter. MUCH flatter. But I’m going to take my 5 minutes any way I can get it. Now I gotta say that I think my time would have been even faster except I had a huge technical issue when I started. I listen to Pandora on my phone while running because the music helps me not focus on actually running. Anyway, for whatever reason my phone couldn’t connect with it. I ended up having to restart my phone on the fly, not an easy task considering it was in my arm band! After going about half a mile I decided that I was just going to have to bite the bullet and run without music. About 100 yards later my music kicked in!
My next race is May 22nd. This one will be similar to my first in terms of the course so I’m curious to see how I do. Bet your bottom I’ll be keeping you updated!
