Those hard to reach places..

Actually, the place I’m talking about isn’t that hard to reach.

It’s really one of those spaces that filling is hard.

Several months ago we FINALLY painted our living room. For 10 years we have lived with a house that is completely painted yellow. Did you know that yellow actually can cause irritability? True story. Or at least it can cause irritability after 10 years of staring at it.

Our living room is now a gorgeous latte color that I love. We have already hung one piece of art from Gallery Direct but we still had many walls to fill and this one particularly was causing me to go “Hmmmm.”

Yes, that is Yo Gabba! Gabba! on the TV

I couldn’t put a large piece of art on that wall because it would just look too crowded since I was contending with the size of our entertainment center and the thermostat.

I started searching the vast collection of artwork available on the Gallery Direct site. I love all the search features. I could narrow my search down to Photography (B&W) and the orientation I wanted which was horizontal. From the results I narrowed it down to 2 pieces and then asked the Hubs to choose. Surprisingly, he said he couldn’t. Both pieces were so gorgeous he couldn’t choose, so what did I do? I printed out small paper versions of each and hung them in the space and stared at them for 3 days!

My eyes kept going back a beautiful photograph by Michael Joseph titled “Overpass”. The drama and the contrast in the photo was just what I wanted.

overpassI chose to have the photograph mounted in a floating frame. And all that bubble wrap was used to ship our artwork. Gallery Direct makes sure your art arrives to you undamaged by taking such care when they package.

Now I get to toot my own horn. The art does come ready to hang with D-rings mounted on the back which makes hanging pretty easy, but my Hubs usually takes care of all that. This time I wanted to surprise him and have it hung before he got home from work so I attached the picture wire to the back by myself and then measured the wall in both directions to make sure that I had it exactly centered. This was harder than it sounds because I also had to factor in the frame and the difference of where the wire was taut. It was all quite technical. 🙂

That said, my art is now hung and whenever I’m sitting on my couch watching TV my eye often drifts up to take in the serenity I feel when I look at it.

If your house is in need of some talking pieces check out the artists of Gallery Direct, or become the artist yourself and turn your own photo into a beautiful canvas print.
