Schedule Sitters with @SitterScout

When my kids were younger my husband and I never left them with a babysitter.

Wait, scratch that, we never left them with a babysitter that wasn’t a grandparent or aunt. Now this wasn’t because we were uber protective of our kids, it basically stemmed from the fact that we usually had a heck of a time finding a sitter. And because we didn’t want to feel like we were taking advantage of family watching our kids we just never went out.

Now that our kids are older and we have met more teens that are willing to watch them, we try to go out for date nights as often as our budget allows. However, when you’re dealing with teens, I often think they are more busy than I am! It can take me up to 5 phones calls before I track down an available sitter. That might not sound too bad but most often it’s leaving messages and waiting for calls back.

sitterscoutSo, this past week I was asked to try out a new service which is in beta called SitterScout. What does SitterScout do that is so cool?

Well, let me ask you a question. When was the last time that you saw a teen who DIDN’T have a cell phone in their hands? Like, never right?

SitterScout becomes like your own administrative assistant by reaching your babysitters in a way they are oh so familiar with, texting!

So here’s how it works.

After creating your profile you’ll be given the opportunity to input your sitters name and cell phone number. After saving the sitter will be sent a text message saying that they were added to your list. So, probably a good idea to let them know ahead of time.

sitterscout inviteOnce you have your sitters entered you’re ready to create your first ‘Job’. All you do is input the information for when you need your sitter. When that is complete it’s time to find a sitter! If you have a plethora of sitters entered you may choose to have a first round and second round of requests. Maybe ask your kids’ favorites first kind of thing. Just select the names of the sitters you want in the first round. (See picture.)
From the picture you can see that you can add a second round if wanted. When you click finish the sitters on your list when automatically be sent a text message similar to this:

“Can u sit for Tina on Sun 03/25 06:00 PM-10:00 PM? Reply ‘1008 yes’ or ‘1008 no’ or visit www.sitterscout.com/invites/2q3946xr”

When your sitters reply you will be sent a text message back letting you know. And it’s first come first serve, so the first sitter to reply yes gets the job. It’s that darn simple!

Probably what I love the most is that it uses a platform that is easy for all involved. My sitters would much rather receive a text that have me call them. Now, of course I could send out texts myself to all my sitters but then I have to keep track of who has replied, hasn’t, etc. SitterScout does all that for you.

Did I mention it’s a FREE service?? Ok, so really that is what I love most. To get this much use out of a product that is offered for free is a good day in my book.

So, if you find yourself having to track down sitters or making the rounds of that long list each time you and the hubs want to go out, definitely try out SitterScout. I really think you’re going to enjoy how much time it saves you from scheduling your sitters!

  1. First come, first serve! I cannot imagine having multiple baby sitters! What a dream that would be. The rule around here is if you have a sitter, you don’t share her. You don’t even ask for her number. Down in the South we’re kinda possessive of our sitters. šŸ™‚
