Headed on the right track.. #Mamavation

MamavationI didn’t post last week.

Mainly because last week was so freaking busy for us that I was finding it hard to find the time to sit down and do it.

The other reason, I was so focused last week on making smart choices that it seriously took the rest of my focus to do just that. I planned out my dinner schedule for several weeks and went grocery shopping on Monday.

Here’s the deal.

I have a super big sweet tooth. Like I’m pretty sure I don’t have separate teeth in my mouth, they are just one big tooth and it prefers sweet stuff over the food that I should be eating and is good for me. With that said, I know that I can’t deprive myself of that type of food, but I also know that if I indulge I really indulge. For whatever reason I am unable to moderate when it comes to sugar, I become like the Sweet Monster or something. So, with that said I had to find something that would curb my cravings for sweets in the evening that wasn’t going to hurt me calorie wise.

Behold, the Skinny Oreo Cookies and Cream Milkshake from Skinny Kitchen.

This shake is so darn good! I will say that I made one little change to the recipe. Instead of using vanilla pudding mix I use vanilla flavored protein powder since I have a hard time getting in my protein each day. It’s hard to believe that for 2 servings you use just 2.5 Oreo Cookies but that’s really all. These have become my nightly sweet snack about 1.5 hours before bedtime. It’s enough that I don’t end up hungry right before bed and it’s sweet enough that I’m not wanting something else sweet afterward. I make about 4 batches at a time and keep them in the freezer so they are ready when I want them.

smothered chickenI’ve also been trying to find some new recipes to make for dinner. I get bored eating the same things all the time so finding new things to eat for dinner is hugely important. I have several websites that I visit, one of which is the Kraft Foods site. They have a whole section for healthy living. One of the new recipes I found was for Smothered Chicken & Green Bean Skillet. Now it might not look super appetizing from my picture, but it was really good. Even my kids loved it. Salad has been my side with every meal and I use salsa for my dressing. It ads great flavor without a ton of calories.

I didn’t lose much weight this week, about 0.5 pound, the real accomplishment was changing the way I eat again and sticking to it. Now that school is out my challenge will be making time to get to the gym or figuring out other ways to exercise in.

Do any of you have tips for getting my exercise in with a 5 and 7 year old at home? Unfortunately, they are too big for a stroller. 🙂

  1. Tina,
Thank you so much for sharing my recipe, Skinny Oreo Cookies and Cream Milkshake. What a wonderful review too! Wishing you all the very best, Nancy

  2. Way to go! The biggest and hardest step is committing to a healthier way of eating. The exercise is hard too, but it doesn’t hit you in the face all day long. Food tempts you every waking minute, at least for me it does.
Thanks for the link to the recipe – I’m always looking for fresh ideas to keep me motivated. I’ll definitely be trying the Oreo Shake. Who knew Oreo made a reduced-fat cookie?? You just made my life a whole lot sweeter! 😉

Tina, you made excellent choices! And I love the recipes, I will definitely be trying them out, thanks for sharing. I know exacting what you mean about finding time with children. My children are the same ages as yours and it is really hard when they are home to find that time. My husband also works long hours so that doesn’t help much either. I am trying to find ways to integrate outdoor activities with them involved so that we all are getting exercise. Let me know if you come up with any other ideas, lol. Hope you are having a great week and congrats on that weight loss. Every little bit counts!

  4. Stick them on their bikes and you chase them on foot – it’s working in our house! 🙂
