Monster Jam is coming to Portland! #Giveaway

monster jam logoI tend to use random metaphors to explain things to my son.

For instance, recently I related Monster Jam, which will be coming to the Rose Quarter next weekend, to bullying.

My son had an experience of some borderline bullying at school. He came home very upset so we sat down to talk about it.

It’s right about now that you are wondering what in the world this has to do with the Monster Jam coming to the Rose Quarter in Portland.

It was actually pretty simple. I told him that the best way to make sure he doesn’t get bullied is to SMASH it altogether! Just like GRAVE DIGGER® does to those cars out there in the middle of the Rose Garden, he can squash bullying by choosing not to do it himself and to stand up to those, in a non-violent way, who do it to others.

This example really hit home with him. I received an email last week from his teacher about a situation in which he told an older boy that he should try to say nice things instead of mean things to his friend. He then encouraged his friend to walk away with him and play somewhere else. Now, my son is only 6 years old. I couldn’t have been more proud of him.

So, thanks to the Rose Quarter and Feld Entertainment we will be heading to the Rose Quarter to see Monster Jam next weekend! He has definitely earned it and I can’t wait to see his face when GRAVE DIGGER® comes out and smashes some cars.

How would you like to join us?!?

Once again, Feld Entertainment and the Rose Quarter have provided me with Four family 4 packs of tickets to the 7:30pm show on Saturday, February 11th to giveaway!

Ferb, I know what we’re going to do today!

Well, on January 20th anyway.

There is major excitement buzzing throughout my house this month.

So, in full disclosure, the excitement is completely all me because I haven’t told my kids what we are doing yet.

By far, our favorite show is Phineas & Ferb. I may even be known for sporting a Perry the Platypus t-shirt at least once a week from time to time. I just love that this show brings our family together, because it’s something we all enjoy. Someone is always spouting off a quote from the latest show or pretending to be Perry. (Yes, usually it’s me.)

disney live phineas ferbSo, when I found out that the Disney Live! show that was coming to Portland was Disney’s Phineas and Ferb: The Best LIVE Tour Ever! I knew there was no way we could miss it.

In their first tour, Phineas and Ferb hit the stage to make the last day of summer the best day ever by putting on a show! In the midst of their planning they realize they have too many ideas. In true Phineas and Ferb fashion, the boys build an idea mash-up machine to combine their favorite ideas into fun and exciting musical numbers.

But, hey, where’s Perry?

disney on ice The Toys are back in town!

That’s right, Disney on Ice is coming back to Portland and the Rose Quarter starting October 27th-30th.

My family and I have been to the Disney on Ice show for the last 3 years and it’s definitely something you won’t want to miss. I’m constantly amazed at how wonderfully the skaters are able to perform while dressed as characters from our favorite shows.

This year our beloved characters from the smash hit Toy Story 3 will be hitting the ice for 7 shows at the Rose Garden. You’ll be able to see Woody, Buzz, Jesse, Slinky, Mr. & Mrs. Potato Head, even Barbie and Ken! (My daughter is going to be excited about that.)

disney on ice toy story 3The show features 2 acts. The first act follows the toys as Andy is getting ready to leave for college. The toys reminisce about their past adventures, which means audiences will be able to relive memorable moments from Toy Story and Toy Story 2 like the claw-game at Pizza Planet and Buzz’s battle with Emperor Zurg.

The second act transports you to Sunnyside Daycare where Lots-o’-Huggin’ Bear leaves the gang at the mercy of the rowdy daycare toddlers. This act features humorous scenes from Toy Story 3 including the infamous “Spanish Speaking” Buzz. :)

Boom A Ring is full of surprises!

Last night the family and I went to watch the opening night of Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey’s Boom A Ring.

Our drive up to Portland was uneventful, the kids and I picked up the Hubs from work and that’s when it got fun.

See, my hubs, doesn’t like clowns so much. He’s not scared of them or anything, I think he just met a clown from the bad side of the ring when he was younger. Well, I may have mentioned the dislike to the kids so as soon as Hubs got in the car the kids were sure to tell him that we were on our way to the circus.

This was followed by reassurances all around.

Boy: “Dad, we just want to let you know that there are going to be clowns at the circus.”
Girl: “Daddy, you can hold my hand if you want to.”
Boy: “You probably shouldn’t look them in the eye.”
Girl: “If you see a clown are you going to run away?”

I spent the time stifling my laughter from the passenger seat but Hubs didn’t find it as funny as I did. He assured that kids that he would be fine and we were on our way.

Now, I wrote all about the show last week and even gave away tickets, but this was my chance to experience the show first hand.
