Taking a bite of Anna and the Cupcakes

bari koralWe have been fans of the Bari Koral Family Rock Band since it’s debut album Rock & Roll Garden. To this day my daughter’s favorite song remains to be Dance All Day.

To say we were excited to hear about their second album Anna and the Cupcakes, which released on Valentine’s Day, is an understatement. We couldn’t wait to add this album to our playlist.

This album is quite a bit different from their first album. Rock & Roll Garden had more fast beat dance songs, to the point that when I turn it on my kids couldn’t help but get up and start moving.

anna and the cupcakesAnna and the Cupcakes is a more mellow approach to family music featuring sprightly roots pop rock songs to country-tinged kickers. After listening to the complete album I fell i love with how each song really told a story. For instance the title track is about disappearing cupcakes and the song ‘Butterfly’ tells the story of a cocoon transforming to a butterfly.

By far though my favorite song on the album is ‘Dragon Comes to Dinner’ which is about a child telling his/her mom that they invited their friend dragon to dinner. Throughout the song, mama is told what the dragon likes and doesn’t like to eat, where dragon will sit, and oh, yeah, Dragon is here!

While not necessarily an album that we will dance around the house to this CD will be going into our car to sing along with since the choruses are so easily repeated.

Disclosure: We were sent Anna and the Cupcakes to review in order to conduct this review.

Real Steel my heart…

real steelLast night I had the opportunity to watch an advanced screening of the new Dreamworks film “Real Steel” starring Hugh Jackman.

I’d seen the previews of the movie and while I thought it looked good it reminded me a little too much of the movie “Over the Top” with Sylvester Stallone. Do you all remember that movie? It’s about a truck driver who, after his wife dies, tries to make amends with the son he left years earlier.

So this is what I went into the theater thinking about. I had my popcorn and my bottle of water, I got the big bottle because I figured if I had to leave to use the restroom it wouldn’t be missing much.

I drank about a quarter of my bottle of water before I decided I needed to stop so I didn’t have to leave to use the restroom. :)

From the opening scene Hugh Jackman’s character, Charlie Kenton, is absolutely lovable and you can’t help but cheer for this washed out fighter who is down on his luck. The dynamic between Kenton and his son makes you laugh and tugs at your heart strings as they begin to develop their relationship.

Here’s another quick clip.

The movie is a bit violent, but then it is about fighting robots. I do know that my 6 year old son will love it and I plan on taking him when it comes to our favorite theater here in town.

So now for you, Dreamworks was kind enough to give me a Real Steel prize pack to giveaway!
In the prize pack you will get an adult t-shirt, bottle opener, stickers and temporary tattoos! Stuff for you and the kids!

Revving my engine for Cars 2!

cars 2On Tuesday my little girl and I had the opportunity to go and watch an advanced screening of the new Disney Pixar movie Cars 2!

First of all, if you haven’t heard that there is a sequel to the ever popular Cars flick then you should really get out more. ;)

Since the first trailer aired, my kids have talked about nothing else. And honestly I can’t blame them. Like my kids I am a huge fan having watched Cars countless time since it came out on DVD 5 years ago. Probably what I was most excited about was that this movie really focuses more on Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen provides the supporting role.

I’m not going to go too into what I thought about the movie because, well, it comes out this Friday and I want you to go watch it then tell me what you think. ;)

That said, I will tell you that if you are also a Deadliest Catch fan, you may see or hear someone you recognize.

Here is a little reminder about the movie what this movie is about.

Not that your kids need to be pumped up any more about the release but I have a fantastic Cars 2 Prize Pack for one lucky ready thanks to my good friends at Disney!

The winner will recieve:

cars 2 shirt

Youth sized Cars 2 tshirt

Mr. Poppers Fandango #CouchCritics

Last weekend for Father’s Day we were given the opportunity to go watch Mr. Popper’s Penguins as part of a shopper insights study by Collective Bias.

We were excited because it was a chance for all of us to go to the movies together. Something we don’t often get to do but find extremely fun. Especially when you get to add a bucket of butter popcorn to the mix. :)

If you’re not familiar with the movie here is a brief synopsis:

In this family comedy, Jim Carrey is Mr. Popper, a driven businessman who is clueless when it comes to the important things in life – until he inherits six penguins. Popper’s penguins turn his swank New York apartment into a snowy winter wonderland – and the rest of his life upside-down. Filmed on a refrigerated soundstage with real Gentoo Penguins, “Mr. Popper’s Penguins” is a contemporary adaptation of the classic book.

Part of the requirements for us to go and watch the movie was to purchase our tickets from Fandango.com which is something I’ve never done before. I found the process both easy and sorta fun. (I’m strange, any new experience is fun in its own way.)

If you’ve never used Fandango before I made a video about my experience and you can see just how easy it truly is!

Now, back to the movie. Personally, I loved it! I have been over Jim Carrey for a while now but I gotta tell ya the movie was enjoyable. I think the penguins really stole the show though. It was the way Jim Carrey’s character interacted with the penguins that really made the movie. The transition he goes through while taking care of the penguins directly affects his relationships with his kids and ex-wife. It’s definitely one of those feel good movies of the year. We all left the theater smiling and of course my kids were reliving the exploits of Stinky and Loudy penguin. :)

You can see what my kids thought in their quick video review of the movie too!
