Going Organic for Franz Bread

Bread.

It’s probably one of the most versatile foods out there. It can be used for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and even dessert!

That’s really why I love bread so much. You can have chocolate, just give me a slice of toast with homemade Oregon strawberry jam on top and I am in heaven. And what better bread to be the platform for the Oregon jam than an Oregon bread??

Franz Bakery has been around since 1906, although the family behind the apron has been baking since way before that.

I’m super excited about Franz new line of organic breads. It’s so great to have another Oregon bakery offer organic bread, it really means another option for me to offer my family a healthy bread option with no HFCS. Now first let me say that I am not completely against HFCS. There are still things that my family and I eat that contain HFCS mainly because we can’t afford to buy completely organic. But I do try to limit the amount we eat, especially when it comes to things that we eat a lot of, like bread.

The Franz organic line of bread comes in 3 different flavors.

WhoNu? Cookies are delish!

Newsflash: I’ve got a sweet tooth.

Seriously, if you put me in a room filled with candies and cookies and locked the door, I would go into a diabetic coma. I’m not proud of that fact but at least I’m honest. I’m also a picky sweet eater. It’s gotta be good or it’s not going into my mouth.

whonu chocolate cookiesIt’s a lover of sweet’s dream to find something that not only curbs our craving but also has some nutritious value to it. Thankfully that where WhoNu? Cookies come in.

Not only are these cookies great tasting but each serving (3 cookies) has a TON of nutrients. Don’t believe me? Well take a look at this list.

Again 3 cookies has:

  • As much fiber as a bowl of oatmeal
  • As much calcium and vitamin D as an 8oz glass of milk
  • As much vitamin C as a cup of blueberries
  • As much iron as a cup of spinach
  • As much vitamin E as 2 cups of carrot juice
  • As much vitamin B12 as a cup of cottage cheese and fruit
  • As much vitamin A as a cup of tomato juice

It should be noted that I don’t like carrot or tomato juice so getting that much in 3 cookies it a pretty big deal to me.

Poppin’ Around #couchcritics #orville

Whether it’s butter, movie theater, or kettle corn. The majority of us love popping popped kernels in our mouths.

For me, popcorn is my go to treat. Why you may ask? Well, did you know that for about 5.5 cups of popped popcorn there are only 120 calories?!? That’s a lotta corn! Since I’m on a mission to lose weight counting calories is my favorite past time. So, when I feel the need to stuff my face, I stuff it with popcorn.

Probably, my biggest annoyance about popcorn is that I always have to dirty a bowl when we eat it. I don’t like to eat the corn out of the microwave bag because your hands get all yucky from touching the side, plus when you first open the bag it’s really darn hot!

This week for our Afternoon Movie Party, my kids and I were able to try out something new. It’s so new in fact that it isn’t even being sold in stores until February 20th! Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls are the microwave popcorn that cooks in it’s own bowl!

Go Ninja, Go Ninja, GO!

With just some modifications to the bag, Orville Redenbacher was able to create a simple alternative to dirty dishes. The bag for the most part looks the same.

Love the old time movie container coloring.

I popped the bag in the microwave for just 2 minutes, which is the normal cooking time in our microwave for any popcorn, and when I took it out I was excited to see how the bag would work out.

Looks like a normal bag. Just peel off the see through portion and voilà!

Ready for some serious munching!

We popped in our movie, added the popped corn and our afternoon movie party was well underway!

They always look innocent before devouring their snack.

And then the best part! When they were done fighting over the last little bits of corn at the bottom of the bag I just picked it up and tossed it in the garbage. No muss, no fuss!

So remember to head out to your local Walmart on February 20th and get some Orville Redenbacher Pop Up Bowls for yourself! You dishwasher will thank you! :)

The really hard thing about having a sweet tooth is that now I am trying to get healthier and that includes losing some pounds which were caused by my chocolate consumption.

Now, I know better than to completely cut out all sweets. This has lead to my downfall more times than I care to admit. This time around I know that in order to succeed in my goal I have to allow myself to satisfy my sweet took, but in MODERATION.
