Holiday Gift Guide 2011- Nomad Brush for iPad is perfect for budding artists

holiday gift guideMy daughter loves to draw.

Really loves to draw.

So much so, in fact, that I had to move my printer in my office to a high shelf so that she couldn’t reach the printer paper. The girl could go through a whole ream of paper in about 3 days I think. It’s also her love for drawing that has required me to stock up on crayons, colored pencils, and even markers during back to school time to last her throughout the whole year.

nomad playThis is why I was so excited when we got the opportunity to try out Nomad Play. It’s a paintbrush stylus for the iPad that is designed and scaled just for kids. It comes in 4 different colors and features unique designs engraved into the handle.

It’s great because there are no crayons, pencils, or markers to worry about. I don’t know how many times she has gotten up and her drawing has travelled off the paper and is partially on the table.

I may be addicted #ipad #app #giveaway

I seriously may need help. Do they have an iPad’ers Anonymous?

Every time I turn around I’m downloading a new app and 9/10 it’s a new game or book for the kids. I really think I bought this more for them than me.

Since I’ve had the opportunity to check out some of Punflay‘s apps before I decided to check out some of their other offerings.

I tire of hearing/reading the same books to the kids day in and day out. Punflay just released a new interactive book called Mr.Pinkerton.
pinkerton punflay

Mr. Pinkerton is a rather large pig who lives cooped up in a barn and dreams of the day when he will be able to fit through the doorway and experience life outside. I don’t want to ruin the end for you but it’s a great tale about friendship.

The story features some interactive pages. For instance when ever there is a spider on the page you can move the ipad back and forth and the spider swings. I would have enjoyed even more interaction but for $1.99 it was a good purchase.

Punflay has been nice enough to offer me 2 redemption codes for their kids apps. I will know exactly which app when I notify the winners. So that’s right. There will be 2 winners!

How have I survived…

Without my iPad?

Seriously, it is my go to device when I am on the run. Not only can I easily surf at the coffee shop or the doctors office, it’s a great way to keep the kids entertained.

It gets the most use when my daughter has dance class. My 5 year old son isn’t the best at sitting still and watching. My iPad keeps his attention focused on it and not about being bored.

I also love all the great educational apps that are available. During Christmas I was given the opportunity to try out 2 such apps from Punflay.

12 Days to Christmas – this app features twelve great activities including coloring pages, stories and of course games. My kids especially loved “Dress Jingee” which let them decorate their own Gingerbread Man. They would crack up at the different faces they could put on him. They also enjoyed “What’s in the Box” game where the had to find the box containing the gift and not the ones that had the jack in the box. They squealed every time the thing would pop out. I have to be honest and say that the stories were a bit simplistic. We did enjoy The Story of Christmas, I loved that it was a religious addition.

Jerricho the Elf – this was by far my son’s favorite. Jerricho is an eager little elf who starts his first day working at Santa’s Workshop. He’s doing a great job only to have the toys he’s made stolen by a goblin! Luckily, Jerricho perseveres and his praised by the big buy himself! This book is interactive. Each page there is something the kids can touch whether it’s picking Jerricho’s hat, making a bird tweet, or even sorting toys. I love books like these. They get the kids much more involved and they enjoy the story even more.

Both of these apps are sold in the iTunes App Store for 99 cents. I think that is a great price especially considering you’ll get 12 different activities with the first one. Even though Christmas is over it will be here again before you know it, might as well get the apps now while you’re thinking of it. Plus, the kids LOVE to celebrate Christmas all year long. My kids still ask me to let them hear Jerricho the Elf. :)

*Disclosure:I received both apps for free from Punflay in order to conduct this review.*
