Not too late to send Cheer! #Giveaway

cheerios send cheerLast month I shared with you all the campaign that Cheerios was running that allowed you to send a “CHEER” postcard to a military family showing your support for them.

While the special boxes of Cheerios are no longer being made you can still find them on the shelves, and the program is good until November of 2012! What this means is you have the next year to send a “sendCHEER” postcard and General Mills will donate $1 to the USO!

This is an amazing program and being a military wife I can’t tell you how much it means to me to see my husband supported. There is a certain pride I have when we are able to join him for lunch during work and when we go out a random person comes up to thank him for his service.

As a family we always know that we can expect to get great quality products at reasonable prices when we visit our local Safeway and this holiday season Safeway is really going one step further in making sure you holidays are extra enjoyable.

In addition to all the great recipes, ideas, and even wine pairings you can get at Safeway.com, they have also developed an app for iPhone users.

safeway chef assistantThe Safeway Chef Assistant not only walks you through step-by-step cooking a turkey in 2 hours but you can also use it while shopping to make sure you get all the ingredients you need to make your holiday meal spectacular.

By the way, this app is so darn cool! When you use it as a timer it will remind you at critical times to do temperature checks of your turkey ensuring that it comes our perfect. For me this app will come in super handy since this will be the first year I will be baking our turkey.

safeway turkeyAnd finally, I gotta tell you about the LOL Turkey Game on Facebook. I have had so much darn fun trying to make the turkey laugh. The really great thing is every time you make him laugh you earn an entry to win a $100 Safeway gift card which will make holiday entertaining even easier.

Unfortunately, the game ends on the Thanksgiving day, but there is no limit on how many times a day you can enter, so if you start now you can get many entries in before the cut off.

Walk a mile in my @KalsoEarthShoes

My Hubs gets a little irritated with the amount of shoes that I have.

What can I say? I love me some shoes. The kicker though is the majority of my shoes aren’t cute strappy heels or heels with a peek-a-boo toe. My shoes are mainly casual. Tennis shoes, slip ons, etc. For me it’s all about comfort and although I admit, there are some comfortable heels out there, they just don’t fit in to my lifestyle.

Let’s face it, I’m a mom and I work from home. Not a whole lot of need to don my heels and business suit. Then again, maybe I should try that sometime. :)

But seriously, most days you will find me wearing jeans, a t-shirt, and some comfy shoes.

One way to get a Gold Medal!

I am not a huge baker.

Mainly because if I bake it, I want to eat it and considering I’m trying to slim down that’s not the best option for me.

However, we are quickly approaching the holiday season and nothing quite puts me in the mood to don my apron than this particular time of year.

When it comes to baking ingredients I always have the essentials on hand. Sugar, flour, eggs and butter. One thing that struck me while I was making sure my ingredient stash was complete was the fact that I often use all purpose white flour. It was a bit ironic to me since I make sure our bread is made with 100% Whole Wheat Flour but yet I’ll bake or even cook things using this bleached version.

gold medal white whole wheat flourI realized that the reason behind this is when I’ve tried to use 100% Whole Wheat Flour in the past it has altered the taste of my goodies.
Thankfully, Gold Medal just released a new whole wheat flour. Their flour is made from hard white spring wheat unlike others that are made with hard red spring wheat. Because they use hard white spring wheat their whole wheat flour has similar texture and taste to regular all purpose flour.

I decided to try out the flour in some cookie dough. I did follow the conversion directions that Gold Medal supplied me with, which was to substitute 25% to 50% of the flour with Gold Medal White Whole Wheat flour. The batter was extremely thick so I ended up adding just a bit more water, I later realized that Gold Medal suggested that too. :)

Is your house a zoo this Summer? Let the Zookeeper help! #Giveaway

I’ve got a great giveaway to get you all out of the house next week and enjoy a movie before it even opens up in the theaters!

The Zookeeper starring Kevin James hits theaters on July 8th but 5 lucks winners will get to take their family of 4 to an advanced screening the day before. That’s right! Not only that but they will also receive a promo pack that includes a movie poster, stickers and pens.

Wait. Am I getting ahead of myself? Do you know what that Zookeeper is about?

If you have yet to see the trailer then allow me to fill you in. :)

Kevin James plays Griffin Keys, the zookeeper for the Franklin Park Zoo. The animals Griffin cares for all love him and Griffin enjoys spending his days with them. Sadly, after Griffin is turned down by the woman of his dreams he decides to leave his position at the zoo in the attempt to win her back by getting a more glamourous job. In order to get Griffin to stay, the animals break their time-honored code of silence and reveal that they can talk! They set out to teach Griffin the rules of courtship – animal style!

If that doesn’t perk your ears right up than take a look at the trailer below. It’s sure to elicit some giggles from the peanut gallery. :)

With an all star cast of voices which includes Sylvester Stallone, Cher, Nick Nolte and Adam Sandler this movie is sure to have you laughing your way out of the theater. This movie is rated PG.
